Antigua

Today was our day in Antigua. When we pulled into port we got off the ship and headed into town, St John’s. We walked a few blocks up the street and quickly discovered that there isn’t that much to see in St John’s but we did find the dollar rental car place so that we could go around the Island and find the best beaches.

Our first beach was Long Bay. It was a beautiful stretch of white sand that had beautiful blue water. Our in the bay was some rock and coral formations for snorkeling. We got a couple of chairs with an umbrella and then most of us hit the water. The snorkeling wasn’t as good as Tortola but we did see some colorful fish, great rock formations and coral. We saw one brain coral growth over a rock that looked to be the size of a Volkswagen Bug. We enjoyed a few hours at the beach and a lunch at a local beach restaurant before heading out to find our next beach.

The next stop was Half Moon Bay. We ended up taken the scenic route there but eventually found it. Along the way we saw some amazingly beautiful beaches. Half Moon Bay was a beautiful beach with a lot of great rock and coral on the left side to go snorkeling in. We didn’t have a lot of luck as far as an abundance of fish here though. Plus, we were all getting pretty burnt out by the sun so we stayed less than an hour.

From there we drove back across the island to the cruise ship to get on board. We had a short walk through some shops in the town but nothing much that was terribly exciting. We got on the ship about an hour before Sail Away so we just relaxed in the cabin before dinner. The kids ate at the buffer before going to Kids Club where they took them to an acrobatics show in the theater. The adults had a nice dinner at the French restaurant.
