Corfu

This is the beach at Paleokastritsa. It is a beautiful beach on the Northern Ionian Sea.

This morning (Thursday) is a relaxing morning and we slept in and read in bed for a while (I finished my 2nd book and have discovered a new author - Tess Gerritsen) and now we're heading off for a breakfast in the dining room. We thought we'd have breakfast there today and lunch tomorrow for a change of pace. At 12:30 we'll dock in Corfu. Our plato rent a car and explore the island and find a beach and relax. The show tonight is a Four Tops review so I want to go to that after dinner. Tomorrow is a sea day and we will kick back and relax. It is interesting having a balcony because we spend a lot more time in the stateroom. I love to put my feet up and sit and read on the balcony.

As planned, we rented a tiny lime green car (a Daewoo) and headed into Corfu Town. We wandered around a cute little shopping area, had gyros for lunch (YUM!) and then returned to our car and headed across the island to Palaiokatrista (not sure if I spelled that right). The island is very green and on the other side we came out up high and had amazing vistas of the water below. It was spectacular. We wound down the hill and spied lovely little resorts. We thought Corfu had a similar feel to Hawaii, only it is Greece! At the bottom we found a beautiful beach cove and set up there on the sandy beach. The water was a little chilly but we quickly got used to it and enjoyed our swim in the crystal clear waters. We've never seen such clear water. You could see the pebbles on the bottom 25 feet below! It was a light light turquoise color and so beautiful. Dan and Chris checked out some caves while Susan and I relaxed on the beach after our swim. Before we knew it, it was late in the afternoon and so we headed back across the island and wandered around Corfu Town some more. It was so much fun! We could have easily stayed longer and it is high on the list of places to return to.

We got on board the ship 15 minutes before all aboard and showered and changed for a fun dinner in the dining room. Afterwards Dan and I went to the show which was great fun. Then, we crawled into bed with the sounds of the ocean blowing in through our balcony door.

We're just being lazy today. Tomorrow is Venice!
